To get a job in Canada, you dont need education... unfortunately you need REFERENCES...
2
don't know your age so i cannot recommend changing field is feasible. as the other poster had said, reference is important. there should be plenty of jobs around, phone companies, building services, a lot of engineers are needed for configuration, planning and maintenance. you may not be able to get into the cutting edge of the industry the first step, but things will happen over time if you don't give up. there is no shame doing macjob, hang on to it until you get a better offer. it may also help that you get some part time work in your area of study before you finish your degree or try volunteer in some research projects, that makes you stand out amongst other fresh grad ...

You will find that profiling ethnicities is a waste of time in these cases, because anyone of any ethnicity would be willing to purchase the items you mentioned. Stick to the benefits of owning the products and their emotional impact on the audience. The decision to buy is based almost entirely on that emotional importance.

If I had to pick a career between a 'computer network engineer' and 'satellite communications engineer'
If I had to pick a career between a 'computer network engineer' and 'satellite communications engineer'?
After I complete the degree I can either take things like CCNA MCSE and get into the networking field. Or follow a MSc in RF engineering and become a satellite engineer. Considering the future job market and pay what would you recommend?

pretty sure satellite communications will give you the best pay in the long run - however you may have to start at the bottom and work your way up you know? this might not be the case with the networking. there will undoubtedly be a job market in both these fields in the future, so i don't think that should sway your decision much i would personally go for the satellite communications - better pay ;) good luck. xx
2
My guess is that satellite engineer would require more on-site and hardware work than a network engineer, so it depends upon if you prefer office work or field work.
3
Satellite career is hard to break into but is truely worth it

Satellite Communications Engineer. The market is flooded with CCNA and MCSE. If you can get both (major / minor), you'd have two resumes with twice the chance of getting hired. T

Marketing faculty terminology confusion- plz clarify thanks
Marketing faculty terminology confusion- plz clarify thanks!?
I looked through the profiles of the faculty section of my marketing department- the credentials and differences in teaching are quite drastic. If you can help explain some of these, I'd really appreciate it. 1. Professor of Marketing vs. Associate Professor vs. Lecturer...and then some advise, others don't. Isn't any college teacher- lecturer or not- by default called a professor? vs. in High School we just say Mr. and Mrs.? So my 2 options for college teachers would be Dr. or Professor? 2. Different academic credentials including: Ph.D. M.B.A. M.A. MSc BSc BBA "advanced study" "so and so # of grad hours" Secondary teaching certificate BSJ B.S.- I know this is Bachelors of Science but is the correct phrase for all undergrad students: "I have a bachelor's degree in so and so" instead of maybe undergrad degree...

Professor is a Senior person .The order of seniority can be:::::Lecturer<assistant professor<associate professor<professor<reader Schools as well have different levels of seniority. So,you just ca't compare college with school!BS undergraduate degree is the same!
2
There are a number of academic ranks for faculty; lecturer usually refers to someone who does not have a doctorate or who is not on the tenure-track, assistant professor (tenure track, but untenured), then associate professor (tenured) and professor (sometimes referred to as full professor, tenured). What you call people is different from their rank. Anyone on faculty may be called professor; in fact, since those with doctorates are generally called doctor at most places, the term is most frequently used for people without a doctorate, like part-time instructors who might just have Master's degrees. Academic credentials are mostly degrees earned. PhD=Doctor of Philosophy MBA=Master of Business Administration MA=Master of Arts MSc=Master of Science BSc=Bachelor of Science (in some other countries) BBA=Bachelor of Business Administration BSJ=Bachelor of Science in Journalism BS=Bachelor of Science (the alternative is a BA, or Bachelor of Arts) advanced study might mean that the individual got some kind of a certificate, but not a degree, or it may mean that they never finished, and I would assume that the grad hours thing means that they have not finished their degree (either because they are still working on it, or because they never completed the degree). A Secondary Teaching Certificate is usually called a teaching credential for teaching high school.
3
Given the terminology, I'm going to assume you're at a university (as opposed to a "college" or community college). 1. Some faculty are "tenured" (or on a "tenure track"). These faculty would generally have one of three academic "ranks": Someone listed as a "Professor of Marketing" is a "full professor. This is the highest rank and generally requires tenure and at least 10 years of full-time teaching experience (often MUCH longer and is based on teaching AND research productivity). An Associate Professor is then next rank...this one usually requires at least five years (again usually more) experience and an established research record. Most Associate Professors will have earned promotion when they earned tenure at the institution but some are hired at the Associate level on a shortened tenure track due to experience at other institutions. An Assistant Professor is the lowest "tenurable" rank...this is the rank given to new Ph.D.s when they take a tenure-track position. A Lecturer (sometimes called an "Instructor") is typically a full-time position that isn't tenured or tenure track. Lecturers typically teach more classes per semester (they don't receive "released time" for conducting research)...they are the professional teachers. An "Adjunct" professor or lecturer is a temporary and/or part-time teaching professional. The safest way to address any professor is by the title "Professor" IF you don't know the person's academic credentials. Most people that have earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) prefer to be called "Dr.". The term Dr. is reserved for people with a Ph.D...lecturers (and at some institutions, even professor ranks) that don't have a doctorate are "Mr." or "Ms." (or Mrs. or Miss). (Mr. and Mrs. was probably appropriate in high school because most of your teachers didn't have a Ph.D....mostly bachelors degrees and perhaps some masters degrees). The safest strategy is to ASK every person how they prefer to be addressed...I don't like "Ms." (too "militant feminist"), "Mrs." (inaccurate, I'm single) AND "Miss" (I'm too old for that one *smile*)...I tell my students that if they want to call me by a title, use the right one, Dr. (or professor). 2. Ph.D. = doctor of philosophy...usually a Ph.D. in marketing...most doctoral degrees are Ph.D. (though some might have a JD = juris doctor = law, an Ed.D = doctor in education and DBA = doctor of business administration). Status-wise, in marketing, a Ph.D. from an AACSB accredited school is the best degree a faculty member could have. MBA = master of business administration MA = master of art (usually used for "liberal arts" majors such as journalism, history, English, etc...some business degrees may also be MA such as a master's in advertising or economics). MSc (or just MS) = master of science (used for scientific majors including mathematics, computer science, biology...some business degrees may be MS such as logistics, marketing research) BSc = same as B.S. = bachelor of science (note the lack of an s at the end of bachelor). BBA = bachelor of business administration ... specialized degree in business usually used by schools with AACSB accreditation. "advanced study" = fancy way of saying the person has taken courses or attended training beyond their last degree earned. "xx grad hours" = number of credit hours earned in graduate level classes. For example, I took 18 graduate hours in statistics (six three-credit classes). "Secondary teaching certificate" = haven't seen this one in conjunction with a marketing program but I've heard it used in education...a secondary teaching certificate is awarded to K-12 teachers that pass a certification test to teach grades 7 through 12 (a "primary teaching certificate" entitles a person to teach grades K - 6 only). "Bachelor's degree in business" (note the possessive s) is the same as saying "undergraduate degree in business"...but the proper (formal) way to say it is to say, "I have a bachelor of business administration" (or "...a bachelor of science in biology" or "bachelor of art in music"). The specific degree does matter in some cases...a BS generally requires a lot more mathematics and other quantitative courses than a BA. Thus, having a BS would tell potential employers you have quantitative skills that someone with a BA might not possess!

what is the job market like for people with security management qualifications in Trinidad and Tobago
what is the job market like for people with security management qualifications in Trinidad and Tobago.?
I am a Trini living in the UK and I work in the rail transport sector. One of my responsibilties is security and I am planning a career change to security full time starting with an MSc security management in October 2010. (already have a BSc. Social Science) I worked in the security industry in Trinidad for about 11 years before emigrating. Anybody know what the job prospects are. I am 48 though and wonder what job seeking in Trinidad and Tobago past 50 would be like.

Your best bet may be to set up your own security company. Security is on the mind of most Trinis these days and business places as well as homeowners are very concerned. Lots of residential areas have security companies patrol the area for a fee. Where I live they charge TT$125 a month per household, but the service is only at night time and its just one car. At least its better than nothing. There are a lot of security companies however but their service is at times less than up to mark. I myself have an alarm at home which triggers a call to a security company. About a month ago one of my relatives set off the alarm by accident and the company never responded. They said the girl monitoring the system was new. Lucky for me it was not a real emergency.
2
I think the prospect is good. Some of these security personnel making more money than police and army personnel.
3
don't worry man your competiton will be only ex-police/solider. Who knows you might get a nice post on the Rapid Rail project... or the Rapid Fail project

IT market for PhD holders in the UAE? Internship?
I am currently doing my doctorate in Information Technology in North Carolina in the USA. I would like to ask about the chances of having an opportunity to work in the industry in the UAE and also the possibilities of getting an internship with an IT company this summer since I am planning to visit my family staying in Abu Dhabi. I am currently working on my doctorate and I have already completed my MSc from a Canadian university. Is there a good chance? Is it competitive? What I know from my experience is that the North American degrees are highly respected in the UAE. Do you have any piece of advice? Thanks ...

Yes you've heard right. US Degrees are highly respected in The UAE. If you want to do your internship in Dubai, then you're in luck as some of the better IT companies in Dubai Internet City do offer internship programmes. And to answer your other question, yes, it is very competitive. What with some of the world's best talent attracted here, you need to be very good to be accepted for an internship programme, by a company in Dubai. You can take help by visiting http://dubai-forever.com/dubai-computer-jobs.html for addresses, email ID's and other contact info of some of the top recruiting firms, specialising in Information Technology jobs; and; that of the HR's and HR departments of the top IT firms

serious help needed, husband and I are unemployed and I have a big decision to make?
I have a very serious question. I have exactly $7000 savings, my credit score is 790. I have 4 years pharmaceutical business development experience, MSc and BSc in Genetics. My husband has high school diploma, he has zero savings, his credit score is 350, his resume shows 10 years fast food restaurant management experience and we have a 3 year old daughter. Anyways, we are living in Fayetteville in Arkansas, we have been out of job for 9 months now and on unemployment benefits "$250" per week. A friend of us, a realtor, offered that I buy a house now here in Arkansas, the price of the 3 bedroom house is $58,000 and apparently he can do the paperwork for us. My husband suggests that I buy the house under my name due to having good credit. Our rent is $550 now, so he says he is gonna give his unemployment benefit for the mortgage instead of rent. We are both very stressed about unemployment, we are still applying for jobs but the job market here is very slow and the city's population is 50,000. Anyways, I was thinking about using the $7000 savings to relocate to Dallas, Texas, where the rent is more or less the same as here, but my logic is Dallas's population is over 2 million and the job outlook is much better so we have a better chance. But my husband thinks that buying a house now is a good investment and he is hopeful we find a job here, but I don't see it. We apply for jobs in Dallas from here, but I guess because we are not there, they don't take us seriously. Do you think we should move now or stay, buy a house and try?

Im going through the same thing my husband has been out of work for a year now, its hard. If i were you i would move and try to get a job over there and once you do then buy a house. I wouldnt buy a house while on unemployment. What if you dont find work there? My husbands unemployment just ran out yours will to someday how will you pay for the house if you dont find a job? I would move first.

Look at towns on the the outskirts of Dallas... Dallas has plenty of work. Fayetteville is Walmart country. The party is over. Get moving on it quick. You will find work. I am about to move to the Texas area also. Seattle is just too cold. Try some temp agencies in Dallas first to get yourself started. There are plenty of towns around Dallas with very inexpensive homes. You will love Dallas. My best friend is selling me 9/10 of an acre outside of Dallas for less than $10,000.00. I am so happy to be moving to texas. Texas is the most technology advanced state in the United States. Tell your husband to lead, follow or get out of the way.

Do not buy a house. You need to find a job, and that probably means moving. Apply for jobs in Dallas, Minnesota, or wherever you can. Only after you find a job should you buy a house.

This is a marriage/divorce area of Yahoo Answers....not the business/realty area. Your credit score, education, the age of your child, where you live....not a good idea to put out there on the internet plus it doesn't help any of us help you. We don't know you and this is way too much information to give to the general public of the internet. You need to talk to a realtor, a bank, someone who knows about finances and specializes in this sort of thing.

we are having almost the same problem...so i know how your feeling. i think you should stay and keep trying and dont give up. i know it's hard out here where we are at too. i dont know if it's a good idea in getting a house now cause your both in unemploment and it could end anytime so maybe you should wait untill one of you find a job. so i wish you luck in your choice!!

I would not buy a house while I am looking for a new job. What if you land a solid job in Virginia and need to move? Rent. I also would not use $7k to relocate - you are unemployed... you got time on your hands. Start cleaning everything out and throwing away stuff and boxing it up. Rent a truck an a dolly and move yourselves.

wow, I lived in Fayetteville Arkansas too!! I moved away 23 years ago. When I was there, unless you worked in a chicken plant, there were no jobs. Arkansas is one of the poorest states in the country. Look it up! I used to call Arkansas the "Land of No Opportunity".. LOL Anyway, I would recommend you move because of the above reasons. Any particular reason why you are looking at Dallas TX? I do think your chances would be a lot better in Texas! But yes, definitely move out of Arkansas.. Beautiful state but no job opportunities. good luck

Thats odd that you post this because I live in Arkansas and just did a search for jobs in that area and found over 200 listings just based on what you say yours and your husbands skills are. Would you like the list? I do not recommend buying a house while your unemployed and I don't see how in the world your unemployment benefits are that low considering that the maximum amount of unemployment you draw is based on what you've earned in your last 4-5 quarters of income reporting. My husband was on what they call a shut down for 2 weeks, (just maintenance, but they call it a shut down so that their employee's can draw UIC, and his was $433 a week.) Looks to me as if you 2 didn't work enough to draw the max benefits. Also another thing..........Arkansas is not Wal-Mart country. We have several thousand companies represented in this state. Mitsubishi, Google, Exide Technologies, Rheem, Trane, Whirlpool, Tyson, Axicom, ABF, C Bean, Etc. You just have to be willing to WORK, for a living. I have often said that the reason the unemployment rate is so high is that there are too many people who want to make $50,000 a year to sit on their duff all day. I was unemployed due to a restructure and I think I drew UIC for about 3 weeks. I was making over 40k a year and I knew UIC wasn't going to pay my bills.........So I took my happy self out and found 2 jobs making 15k each a year and took care of my family until I found a better job that paid more. I suggest you look into that. By the way, I was a single mom with 2 kids and no child support. If I can do it by myself, i think you 2 can!

Why would you take such a risk right nowith foreclosures on the rise. i am not trying to being negative but lets be real.....moving sucks to begin with and if you get the house and the unemployment ends and you don't find a job yikes!!! Your credit cards may be taking a beating right now as well, the price does sound great, but weigh your options and if someone can afford to help you if something happens then maybe. There will be other houses come along and maybe even nicer than that one. The price may be great BUT did you do the inspection yet?? good luck in your decision.

Please all, could you answer which IT CERTIFICATE THAT desired most by the employers
Please all, could you answer which IT CERTIFICATE THAT desired most by the employers?
Actually iam really puzzled trying to choose my way into IT INDUSTRY and i have already finished my MSc degree into network management . I have already got a good knowledge into CCNA materials , however these days i been thinking that its like your work done when the network for specific company is designed and then your task will be just to keep monitoring it . what i require is to find out which of these different certificates ( networking, database, security , microsoft) are the best demanded by the employers and most profitable . i WISH if there is an IT SPECIALIST out there who is familiar with the IT market and its demands .

NONE! They want work experience and then you can supplement that with certificates to waste your money. You can have all the papers you want that show you can pass a test, but in this market experience is by far the most important.

It's tough to go wrong with the security stuff. Make sure to get some experience and certificates in Linux as well.

7. Subsidised exercise. The disease diabetes 2 is an ever increasing problem in Denmark and throughout the Western world. It has turned out that mild versions of the disease may be treated by daily exercise, but it is difficult to get people to exercise. They will come up with all manner of excuses from lack of time to the unpleasant sweating and smelling that you exude after having exercised. As a consequence, subsidising exercise has been considered. So far this model has been tried in Sweden with a good result, but Denmark is considering introducing a similar system. The demand curve for exercise may be described as: P=200-5Q Where Q represents the monthly hours of exercise while P represents the discomfort from exercise by the hour. If you are greatly discomfited by exercise, you will exercise as little as possible, and if you are only discomfited to a relatively small degree, you will exercise a lot. The costs of exercise are an expression of what you might do instead of exercising, and it is clear that if you have to do a lot of exercise, you will miss many other activities, so the costs may be described as: MC=20+Q To this should be added the mentioned considerable advantages to society from the exercise, since you avoid all the additional complications associated with diabetes. Society’s advantages from having people exercise may be described as: P=100-0,5Q, as there are great advantages to be had from the first hours of exercise and fewer advantages to be gained from additional hours of exercise. It is assumed that the market for exercise is characterised by perfect competition, so you are to: • Compute the private optimum, i.e. private price, quantity and contribution margin. • Compute the social optimum, i.e. social price, quantity and contribution margin. In order to get people to exercise more, subsidising exercise has been considered. This would mean that on application to the local social services administration you may have your cost of exercising at a gym covered by more than 100%, which means that there is even some income to be gained from exercising. • You are to compute the subsidies at which the public sector is to refund expenditure on exercise in order to shift from the private to the social optimum. Compute and illustrate the social loss of deadweight to society if you are in the private rather than the social optimum. 8. Obesity tax. As everyone knows, obesity is one of the greatest social problems in Denmark. Over time almost everything has been tried to get people to eat healthy food and take exercise, but it has not worked and the number of obese citizens is increasing heavily. Finally, the authorities approach Niels Lauritzen, MSc. in economics, who after considering the matter for 10 minutes says: â€If economic incentives are effective within all types of areas, they will also work for obesityâ€, and he therefore suggests an obesity tax, which quite simply means that people must pay tax depending on their BMI. If their (Body Mass Index) is over 25, they must pay tax to the government, as obese people are a burden to the public health system in the same way that drivers are a burden to the road system. • Using demand and supply curves you are to illustrate how such an obesity tax may reduce the number of obese people and cause a shift from private towards social equilibrium. 43 minutes ago - 3 days left to answer.

Everything mentioned above is determined by the amount of cost-benefit and supply and demand.

Should I do a masters degree straight after I graduate with my bachelor
Should I do a masters degree straight after I graduate with my bachelor?
I'm going to start with my BSc degree in Economics at Swansea University, and having done more research into the reputation of universities, i'm kind of regretting choosing Swansea, since I declined offers from Cardiff, Manchester, Leicester and East Anglia in the process. Anyway, I don't feel it is the end of the world - it's still fairly decent and traditional, right? I'd like to do (not an MBA) but maybe something like an MSc in Economics/Finance/Management when I graduate at a much better university, e.g. Warwick, Bristol, Durham, Bath, LSE, UCL, Oxbridge etc, is this good/bad when entering the job market having graduated with such a masters degree? It means I will be 22 by time I have graduated with a masters. I'm also aiming for a job in the financial/commercial sector - it would be nice if I could enter the world of investment banking, or management/financial consulting or at least accounting. Something lucrative and prestigious in the financial world. Is my approach, by aiming to do a masters at a better university than Swansea, a good/bad idea? Thanks in advance.

If it serves your best interests- in the long run- to get a Master's now, then I would go for it now...
2
If you will be changing schools then I suggest letting some time pass before you apply. Graduate schools like to see that you were able to have some time to really think about you previous major and that you are sure you want to continue. After I graduate I plan to go to nepal and spend some time (a year) living with monks. I thought that would look pretty good on my application. :) But yea, taking some time off or working for a bit will look legitimate and help your chances of getting in. However, I'm sure it's not to big of a deal to go straight in.

I'd say if you have the determination to go straight in to it then go for it, but that's a few years off isn't it, so you'll not know how you feel until the time comes. Maybe by then you'll be needing a gap year or something. If you're still up for it when the time comes, I'd recommended Bristol. My friend is there, and it's a fantastic university. The lecturers are great, and there's a good pass rate there. Just work really hard to get good pass on your bachelor degree & it will help your chances to get in.

Newcastle residents, a few questions
Newcastle residents, a few questions?
Hi, I'll be going to the UK for the first time (for 1 year MSc Course) in Newcastle University... I will be living in "Leazes" area ... would really appreciate if anyone can help me with these: 1) Which UK mobile ServiceProvider (SIM card) is the best? (in terms of signal strengths) 2) Is it true that in the UK, if I use mobile GPS with Ovi Maps - the Navigation is free of charge? 3) What is the availibility of Taxi (cabs) in the city, especially at early mornings and late nights? 4) I will require a "hand held bidet" (hand shower) for Toilet, (since I am not used to cleaning 'without' water) ... where can I find that? any Sanitaryware shops are you aware of, or any huge market where I will probably find one? Thanks !!

Hi, all I can help with is the taxi question- there are absolutely loads, as well as a very good metro and bus system.
2
1) well i know orange and t mobile work fine in that area 2) i think it depends on your mobile price plan 3) taxi service is good early mornings, late nights it depends what night, weekends you may wait a whiile because 1000's flock to Newcastle for pubs 4) i'd recomend trying a shop called Peacocks (not the clothes shop) it's close to the Royal Victoria Hospital, and the University they sell disability aids etc, they may have what you want there. (not saying you are disabled, just if anywhere has that item they might)

7.Subsidised exercise. It is assumed that the market for exercise is characterised by perfect competition, so you are to: •Compute the private optimum, i.e. private price, quantity and contribution margin. •Compute the social optimum, i.e. social price, quantity and contribution margin. In order to get people to exercise more, subsidising exercise has been considered. This would mean that on application to the local social services administration you may have your cost of exercising at a gym covered by more than 100%, which means that there is even some income to be gained from exercising. •You are to compute the subsidies at which the public sector is to refund expenditure on exercise in order to shift from the private to the social optimum. Compute and illustrate the social loss of deadweight to society if you are in the private rather than the social optimum. 8.Obesity tax. •Using demand and supply curves you are to illustrate how such an obesity tax may reduce the number of obese people and cause a shift from private towards social equilibrium.

The private optimum= not sure If you are in the private rather than the social optimum, the social loss of deadweight to society (if the society's advantages from having people exercise may be described as: P=100-0<5Q) will be great.

Unsure which Master's degree in Economics I should take
Unsure which Master's degree in Economics I should take?
I'm in my final year of a BA Economics degree. Currently, I'm studying Corporate Strategy, Financial Markets and Institutions and Econometrics as my electives. My school offers two Master's programmes: MSc Financial Economics or MBS Business Economics. I've found myself quite interested in reading Financial Times regularly and watching Bloomberg News. I'm always watching stock prices and currency movements, but I'm also interested in business performance as well. I'm also studying several languages to complement my economics studies. I studied in China last year and became fluent in Mandarin. I'm currently doing a 10,000 word dissertation - Will China's economy be the largest in 2020? Last year, my modules were Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Quantitative Skills for Economic Analysis. Macro. and quant. were my two highest marks. What master's degree would best fit my interests?

Good on you, you are certainly a high achiever. For me, I would go for a masters in any one of your choices. I would suggest the MBS in Business Economics, mainly because of your interests, and the chance of getting a job are better.Unless, you want to work for Wall street, then the other Choice. Good luck. I hope you do well.

go for MSc Financial Economics - it will pay more for your math skills.

Economic Question Regarding Pollution Permits
Economic Question Regarding Pollution Permits?
Steve’s paper factory is polluting a local river and the following information is provided on its demand, output, and cost conditions. Use the chart of information below to answer questions 9, 10, and 11 that follow. A)$50 per unit. B)$40 per unit. C)$20 per unit. D)$10 per unit. Answer is B 11)If the government gives the paper factory 2 tradable pollution permits at no charge, which allows the factory to produce 2 units of output (each permit is worth one unit of output), and the pollution permits sell in a competitive market for $10 per permit, what should Steve do? A)buy one additional permit. B)buy two additional permits. C)sell one of its existing permits. D)sell two of its existing permits. Answer is A For question 9 i figured that MSB=MPB has to equal MPC and be less then MSC. That is how i arrived at a quantity of 4 I am not sure how to arrive at answer for questions 10 and 11. I am unsure the reasoning behind the answer. Any help would really be appreciated. Thank You

Whether or not the software market is going down, it is always a good thing to finish whatever you set out to do. Complete your objective. Success. If you cannot sell it, then go on to something else; but you will have success behind you when you go.

About my portfolio here. Yesterday I rid myself of PIR & GPS Pier 1; I took it in the @rse a shade on that one. GPS was about flat and could be an excellent merge/takeover play...yet, I invested in it because Warren Buffett owned them and turns out the old koot couldn't turn $1 into 2 in today's world/market. No sh*t, I kid you not... If Buffett started with $10k and that was all he had to invest. 10-years from now i'd be amazed if he still had $10,000 left. Anyways, So I added more Cabela's...I trimmed a bond fund and bought EWZ,LNCR,PEIX & MSC today...I wanted some others, but will have to round up some more coin. Now then...**MY QUESTION IS** Here's my new updated PORTFOLIO!!! What do ya'll think??? Give it to me straight, I can take it. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/cq?s=AMCC+BIDU+CAB+CAV+CEPH+COST+CPST+DWA+DQE+EBAY+EWZ+F+FCEL+FRO+GRR+HXM+LNCR+MSC+MSFT+NWN+NWS-A+PDC+PEIX+PGH+PTR+SBUX+SIFY+UPS+UST+WTS+YHOO,WWAG.OB&d=v1

How can I go on opening my own small business
How can I go on opening my own small business?
Hi I live in Greece and have studied hotel management in UK. My MSc is on Organisational Change & Development. I work as a market development manager in a large convention centre and I should be described as an OK payed employee. I don't feel happy though! I feel that I should take a chance and open something up. I am sick of making other people rich and still have to try hard as to prove and describe WHY I should be vallied from the company, and WHY I should be payed more, and WHY I am good enough to evolve more! But habbit makes things complicated. When I picture my self starting a small business I fell panic and frustration as I always managed other people's money and took no risks. I KNOW I am gonna be good at running a small operation smoothly YET SOMETHING HOLDS ME BACK. Any of you people out there had the same feelings?? How did you cope?? Did you take your chances and moved foreword?? How did it go??

Been there, done that. I've been in software engineering for 15 years. Wanted a complete career change, wound up going into business for myself. It takes guts. You're going to have to deal with the gnawing doubts and uncertainities that keep so many of us a prisoner of the salaried job for too long! ;) But if you have faith in yourself, ask yourself, "What is the worst thing that could happen?" Seriously. Imagine the absolute worst thing. Then make it a hundred times worse. And more if you can. Now ask yourself: "Can I handle that?" - both emotionally and financially! If the answer is yes, then start preparing. Talk to people who've started their own business in the same kinds of area as you're interested in. Ask what the "gotchas" were, what surprises came up that they hadn't anticipated. What the worst of the fears were and how they dealt with those fears. In the meantime, start setting aside money - you're going to have to buffer yourself when you start - there may be a few months with no business income, right? And have a backup plan: if it takes longer than expected, what will you do to survive? Can you take up temp jobs to bring in the cash? etc. If at all possible, start the business while you still have a job. That way you have a cushion. Make sure you give your attention to the job while at work, and equally, make sure you focus on your business while you're doing that. It's do-able. Only you can answer the question of whether or not YOU will do it! :) Good luck, FF

I am always looking at value when the markets either correct themselves or slide on inflation worries, soaring fuel, falling dollar or what have ya. I need a stock you actually believe will be a 2-3 bagger or even better over the long-term. Doesn't have to double overnight, but within a couple years is what i'm looking for. And of course we're all looking for those, but I know some of you out there really believe with all your heart that this stock or that stock will triple and rocket to the moon. So what are they and why do you feel that way about it rocketing? In the US, you need a PhD to be of any use in clinical psychology. The other option is a masters in social work, and become a LCSW (licensed clinical social worker). I used my BS in psychology only to have a degree so that I could go to medical school and get a degree that was useful.

Should I go for Second Bachelor or Masters in Food Sc & Nutrition
Should I go for Second Bachelor or Masters in Food Sc & Nutrition?
I graduated in BS Biology in 2003, but after all these years, I did not work at the related field or industry. I was helping my dad in his business dealing mostly with insurance and marketing. Now that I am thinking of going back to science field, yet with no appropriate working experience in science, I decided to return to school for a degree in Food Science & Nutrition. Considering the lack of experience that I have, should I go for a second bachelor in Food Science & Nutrition? Or a Masters will be a better path? The reason I am leaning towards second bachelor is because I have no idea what I should do for the thesis (the schools I am applying for require a thesis for MSc). What do you think? Thank you for your comments and suggestions!

Well, with a Masters you might be able to get higher pay if you do end up in that field. But if you feel like you'd prefer to get another Bachelors, then go for that.

I think that leaning towards the second bachelor's is probably a good idea, depending on what you want to do. If you want to practice as a dietitian, a second bachelor's is probably beneficial to you for a number of reasons. 1.) You will need to know the "basics" before you can really succeed in a master's program. You will learn these basics as an undergrad. Also, since your first bachelor's is fairly recent, many colleges will probably give you credit for some of the basic courses that you took. 2.) To become a dietitian and to legally be allowed to practice as one, you will have to, at some point, complete an internship of around 1200 clinical hours (which, though a big number, really isn't all that bad!!!) So whether or not you have a master's or a bachelor's, it really doesn't matter, at this point you'll still be required to go through this like everyone else. One thing to note: some of the internships offered allow you to obtain your master's at the same time. 3.) As of RIGHT NOW, a master's does not really help you along in the field of nutrition/dietetics in terms of pay. Your pay grade does not really increase with a Master's. This may be changing in the future, but right now, it doesn't matter that much. Like I said, this is if you are looking to practice as a dietitan. If you are looking to do this, don't feel like you are the only one in the situation. About a quarter of the people who are in my dietetics program now are second time undergrads. Good Luck!!! P.S.- it may be helpful to talk to some of the people who are in the nutrition programs at whatever college/university to which you are applying and ask them this question. They will be the most knowledgeable and helpful for this situation I think.
Why can't I get a job
Why can't I get a job?
I work from home in sales & marketing and I hate it so much. I have been looking for a scientific or animal related job for nearly four years now and its really getting me depressed that im just not getting a chance. I have a BSc and MSc plus some voluntary experience but nearly every job asks for 2 or more years experience. Where on earth am I supposed to get it from? I have even tried writing to labs etc offering to work for free but due to health and safety regulations I have not had any luck with that either. Any Ideas on how to get that foot in the door? im now desperate as I have even been rejected for being out of science to long.

Well keep trying, dont lose hope. Check ads in newspapers, ask some friends... Something will probably come out.... I hope...

at least in part, your problem is a result of the economic polices of every administration since 1913 when the Federal Reserve (unnatural) ACT was signed by Woodrow Wilson. Also, the whole Working from home (and in Sales & Marketing even...) by its very nature, its going to be marginal $ if any at all and anyhow the whole concept is just so WRONG! Ya, get a REAL job! and unfortunately because of the sick and twisted world banking cartel its not good and its not going to get any better until we can dethrone the Bankers (thieves and crooks all of them!)

I want to start a distance education school in my home country. Where can I source prepackaged courses
I want to start a distance education school in my home country. Where can I source prepackaged courses?
I want to offer CNA, Dispute Mediation training, Drug and Alcohol counselor certificates, Autism certificates, Case Management Certificates. I researched with my education ministry and I need a Msc to offer these as teacher. I have a Bsc in Psy. and Soci. and plan to do an MBA or Msc in Counselling come September. However I would like to prepare by starting to source and price prepackaged programs so I don't have to do them all from scratch and I know my idea is viable. Where can I find these? Is this available? Is there somewhere eg. a job board I could order these from education providers? I'd love prepackaged as then its more likely to be accredited by someone which would be a marketing advantage at home. Can anyone help?

You have no credibility to open a distance education school.

Do you think my salary right
Do you think my salary right?
I have been hired by a company almost 2 years ago to work on email marketing campaigns for 18k. I am a computer science graduate with MSc in programming, however at the time I needed the experience and just got the job. Ever since, I haven't got a raise, despite my 4-5 tries throughout the time. I have made a large contribution to the department, not only by doing my job, but evolving it whilst trying to practice programming and creating new software. I am currently looking for another job, as nothing here seems that this job is going anywhere. Do you think I am underpaid? I'm on the edge even of quitting! :D Following the credit crunch in March 2009, I was one of the "lucky people" to actually have a job...The emails are sent to people who are requesting their digital magazines etc so it's legit. Also, this was my first job ever.

Wow I am not sure in the least why you would take such a job! With a MS in programming you could easily find a job making 50k OR more with experience. My husband works at a corporate headquarters on computer systems and he makes a Hell of a lot more than 18k. Your getting paid right for the job.. but it is absolutely the Wrong job for you!
2
I was about to say you were well underpaid for you education level. After reading the phrase "email marketing campaigns," I have changed my mind. I think you should get a pay cut if you are of the group of individuals who are responsible for generating spam.
3
Yep. I bet they are handing you the typical lines: "you're lucky to have a job" "we are in a pay-raise freeze" "there are plenty waiting in line to take your job at that salary" Some employers are going to milk that recession cow as long as they can to keep people underpaid. But recession or not, enough is enough. It doesn't sound like the experience or pay is good enough to the point of staying any longer. I would go on the job hunt, if I were you.

It appears that you are being paid properly for the job but you should be able to secure a better position with your educational background. I would keep this job while aggressively searching for something else.

My friend, here's the thing about Career Planning. Nobody can tell you what your career path will be, but what expert people can do is give you a compass so that you know WHEN you stray from your heart's desire or the world's need. The framework or compass that I give people in my career management workshops is one that focuses their attention on basically four key dimensions of a good, fulfilling and rewarding career: TALENT WORLD'S NEED PASSION MEANING These refer, respectively, to your head, your body (you have to make a living and get paid to feed and clothe your body), your heart and your soul. The first thing to do is to determine what you are good at: that is, find your talent. Sometimes it takes a while to discover your unique talent. Just pay attention to what people say about you, especially the compliments they make. Next you have to develop your talent in a way that serves a real need in the world. Think about the theatrical talents of Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II. They both used their acting talent by playing an important role in the world, at the time they were needed as leaders. Over time you will also realize that you want to do something that is meaningful to you at the personal level. You want to do something that contributes to a better world, something that is aligned with your values. This is about wanting to make a difference. We all want to make a difference. And of course throughout your career and in fact throughout every single day, you want to do something that makes you feel alive (and kicking!). When older people give you advice, you can easily place their advice along one of these four key axes. Therefore, nobody's advice will be complete. Some will tell you to go "where the money is." Others will tell you to follow your heart. Yet other people will suggest you do something that makes a difference. But in the end, it is up to you to consider each piece of advice given the global picture of a good career, which includes all four elements (in varying degrees, of course). Good luck!

well, better qualifications, better job I guess Good luck
2
I have a masters in physics. The degree was useful to convince the hiring manager that I could learn what I needed to learn to do the job, despite not having a BSEE (engineering degree). It's turned into a 15 year career.
3
Everyone I know with a Masters has not been able to really use it. I am hearing more and more that trade school is the way to go for job security. I have a friend who's son went to Electrician school. He is 25 and the head electrician for a major grocery store chain and he is pulling in six figures. Most people I know with psychology degrees work for schools as counselors. They aren't making much money considering what they paid for their education.
4
first off you need a phd in psychology to 1) get a job in that field 2) call yourself a 'psychologist' anyways yes a MS is useful and gives you the edge in a competitive market.. whether it's the edge to get hired, or the extra pay, it's nice :) my MSAS is more mathy, so i can't comment on medical pay...

My daughter just got her MSc in Technology Management and her research got her a full ride for a PhD in Civil Engineering at a top school.
